Parliamentary Business Set to Pick Up in Rajya Sabha Today

In the last leg of the monsoon session of Parliament, legislative business is set to pick up in the Rajya Sabha today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move two important bills in the Upper House for consideration and passage. These are the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 and the National Cooperative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The proposal to rename Kerala as'Keralam'has already been unanimously approved by the state assembly. The bill to rename Kerala as'Keralam'is part of the due process under Article 3 of the Constitution. The central government had approved its proposal in February, after which the President had sought the opinion of the state assembly. The Kerala assembly had unanimously approved all sections of the bill in July. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will also be moved in the Rajya Sabha today. The bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the controversial FCRA amendment bill, 2026, is being continuously referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) by the government for detailed consideration.
