Parliamentary Committee Report Finds Justice Yashwant Verma Liable for Cash Scandal, Impeachment Speculated

The report of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the cash scandal involving Justice Yashwant Verma has come out. The committee said that the presence of a large amount of Indian currency notes in the official residential complex in Delhi and its source or ownership has not been satisfactorily explained. The report also calls the non-seizure and safekeeping of the cash by the police and fire officer who arrived at the scene as a "serious lapse." Now it has emerged that the motion to impeach Justice Yashwant Verma can be brought in the winter session. Government sources have been quoted as saying that an impeachment motion can be brought in the winter session to remove Justice Yashwant Verma. The three-member inquiry committee has found all three charges against Justice Verma to be true. The committee has since recommended further action. However, the five-member bench of the Supreme Court ruled in 1978 that the judge's resignation is his removal from office, not required to be accepted. Justice Verma has already sent his resignation to the President's office in April this year.
