The political exercise to woo women and young voters has intensified in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has announced a financial assistance of Rs 40,000 for women, while the BJP government has approved lifetime free travel in UP Roadways buses for women aged 60 and above. Apart from this, decisions like ending the two-year gap for 180 days of maternity leave for women government employees and giving free bus travel to women on Raksha Bandhan have also been taken. There is also talk in the political corridors of giving 50 thousand rupees to women by the BJP, but it has not been officially announced by the party. In such a situation, the BJP and SP's strategy for women voters before 2027 appears to be at loggerheads. On the one hand, the SP is trying to woo voters through promises of direct financial help and facilities like laptops and scooties for girl students. On the other hand, the BJP government is constantly focusing on its women's welfare schemes and free bus rides for women on Raksha Bandhan.
