Congress will give strength to local parties and if there is a direct contest between Congress and BJP, we will fight strongly." If sources are to be believed, Congress has offered to merge TMC. This condition has been put before the Congress by her nephew and party MP Abhishek Banerjee. Sources said that the demand to make Mamata Banerjee the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha has already been made by a group of TMC MLAs in West Bengal after the assembly elections.
