Protests Turn Violent in Central Delhi as Thousands Demand Education Minister's Resignation

Tension prevailed in central Delhi on Monday, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. Amid clouds of tear gas over Parliament House, young protesters facing police lathis and Jantar Mantar being evacuated by the end of the day, talks between the government and the cockroach Janata Party (CJP) also took place. Life in Delhi was affected till late in the evening. Traffic was jammed in large parts of central Delhi and entrances to several metro stations were closed as a precaution due to heavy deployment of security forces, causing inconvenience to commuters. Thousands of young people marched towards Parliament demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, but were dispersed by Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel near Parliament Street by firing tear gas shells and using mild force. The protesters, who came out with the slogan'Chalo Parliament ', turned the high-security streets of central Delhi into protest centres where they shouted slogans like'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'and'Jai Shri Ram '.
