PTI Party Postpones Protest March to Islamabad Until October 4

The party of Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has decided to postpone its protest march to Islamabad until October 4. Party insiders said on Friday that the party will now formally announce it. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had announced to launch a long march to the capital on September 27 with the aim of pressuring the government to release party founder Imran Khan, but decided to postpone it due to the tough measures taken by the government to curb protests. The 73-year-old Khan has been in jail since 2023 when he was arrested after being convicted in a corruption case. He is lodged in Rawalpindi's high-security Adiala Jail. Party sources said that the decision to postpone the protest was taken at a meeting and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will make a formal announcement. According to sources, the protest will now begin on October 4 instead of September 27. Earlier in the day, Afridi said in a press conference that the Chief Minister will go ahead with the march to Islamabad despite the strict measures taken by the government to curb the protest.
