Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Sunday that all Sikh MLAs and Sikh ministers would appear before the Akal Takht on the issue of the sacrilege law on June 29. He gave this information after a meeting with party MLAs in Amritsar. Speaking to reporters, Mann said, "Our MLAs and ministers will go there and submit their views in writing." The meeting discussed in detail the strategy ahead in view of the Akal Takht's directives. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Garhaj had summoned Sikh MLAs and Sikh ministers of all parties on June 15 to appear before the Akal Takht on June 29. Non-Sikh cabinet ministers have been asked to submit their views on the matter in writing before June 29. In fact, the Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had objected to the'Jagat Sri Guru Granth Sahib Renovation'( Amendment) Act, 2026. They say that this law has been made without consulting the Sikh Panth. The state government had removed the provisions of the Guru Granth Sahib, Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the Sikh Sansthan Bill 2026 from the Akal Takht.
