Talks of a re-alliance between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the BJP have intensified ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. While the SAD is hinting at an alliance, the BJP has made it clear that if there is an alliance between the two parties, the role of the BJP should be that of a big brother. Former Union minister and SAD MP Harsimrat Badal had given strong indications of an alliance during a rally in Sangrur on Thursday. The next day, her brother and former cabinet minister Bikram Majithia said that an SAD-BJP alliance for Punjab was the need of the hour. In a conversation with India Today, Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Bikram Majithia said that Punjab needs an alliance and the people of Punjab also want this alliance to happen. People have seen the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab and today it is very important for law and order, communal harmony and national security. Majithia said that the separation between the two parties had happened on the issue of farm laws.
