A historic and emotional chapter was added to the politics of West Bengal on Monday. In the first cabinet expansion of the new BJP government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, MLA Kalita Majhi from Ausgram was sworn in as a Minister of State. Kalita's journey is a big answer to those who consider politics to be only the domain of the rich. Kalita, who once worked as a domestic help in others'houses and earned only Rs 4000 a month, has become a great example of struggle and patience in Indian politics. Her same spirit and hard struggle has also been praised by the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi. Kalita Majhi, a resident of Majhpukur Par, Ward No. 3 of Guskara Municipality, has lived a life of abject deprivation. Born in a very poor family, Kalita was married to a poor family in Mangalkot Police Station area. Her husband Subrata Majhi is a plumber by profession and their only son has recently passed the 12th standard examination. Kalita did not want to enter politics because she was afraid of how her journey to the political booth would be supported by her family and her family.
