Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi were released by the Delhi Police two hours after they were detained on their way to protest at Jantar Mantar. During the last 24 hours, the Delhi Police detained and released Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi twice. After the lunch given by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, all the leaders had proceeded to Jantar Mantar in a bus, but the police and paramilitary forces stopped them by putting barricades in front of Shangri-La Hotel on Ashoka Road. Rahul Gandhi and some other leaders were taken away in a Tempo Traveller. After Rahul Gandhi was detained, many Congress workers climbed the roof of the Traveller and started shouting loud slogans. Amid the presence of security forces at the spot, the sloganeering continued for a long time. The opposition MPs wanted to go to Jantar Mantar to protest against the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The banquet was attended by Congress, Left parties and Shiv Sena. Sharad Pawar, General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party (U.T.) and Sharad Pawar (NCP) said that no decision was taken on Tuesday night.
