Rahul Gandhi Demands Removal of Union Home Minister Over Police Action During Student Protest

: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday stepped up his attack on the Centre over the police action during the July 20 student protest in Delhi, demanding the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and promising accountability for those responsible. Speaking to the media after Parliament proceedings, Gandhi alleged that he was not allowed to raise the issue in the Lok Sabha unless he apologised for his remarks against the Home Minister. He said he refused to withdraw his statement and maintained that the concerns of students must be discussed inside Parliament. Gandhi alleged that protesters were subjected to the use of force, including lathis and pellet guns, during the police action. He said responsibility must be fixed not only on those who carried out the action but also on those who gave the orders. The Leader of Opposition also announced three assurances for students, saying the Congress would stand with them and continue to raise their concerns. He promised that those involved in any action against students would be held accountable. Gandhi further advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to the concerns of students and address the issues raised by them instead of ignoring their demands. The remarks came amid a political row over the handling of the student protest in Delhi, with opposition parties seeking action over allegations of excessive force during the demonstration.
