Rajasthan politics is going to see a major change at the local level. The Bhajan Lal government of the state has cleared the way for the abolition of the two-child norm for candidates in panchayat and urban body elections. The amendment bill brought in this regard has been passed in the Rajasthan Assembly, after which now people with more than two children will also be able to contest for posts like sarpanch, councilor, chairman and mayor. This decision of the government is being considered a big change in local politics. Many people were deprived of entering the electoral fray due to this long-standing rule. Now there is a possibility of changing the electoral equation from panchayat to municipal body after this ban is lifted. This major policy change began with two important amendment bills introduced in the Rajasthan Assembly. Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar placed the amendment bill related to Panchayati Raj on the table of the house. In this bill, people with more than two children from the ward to the district chief elections will also be able to contest the elections.
