Rajasthan Students Demand Restoration of Student Union Elections Amid Clashes

The demand for the restoration of student union elections in Rajasthan is now growing louder. After the capital Jaipur, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists also staged a strong demonstration in Ajmer on Thursday evening. Students in both cities raised slogans demanding the restoration of elections, demonstrated on the road and clashed with the police. Several student leaders were detained. The ABVP says that their movement will continue until the student union elections are resumed. ABVP activists demonstrated at the main gate of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University (MDS) in Ajmer demanding the restoration of student union elections. During this time the protesters blocked the Pushkar bypass road, which affected traffic completely. The vehicles of Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwal, Additional SP Rural Lalchand Kayal and the Executive Magistrate were also stuck due to the jam. The protesting students stopped the vehicle of the Additional SP from moving ahead and sat on a dharna on the road. The police used mild force to disperse the protesters. More than a dozen student union leaders were also taken to the Jaipur Civil University campus.
