The schedule for the Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan has been announced. State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh announced the election dates at a press conference on Saturday. The elections will be held in 4 phases. The nomination process for panchs, sarpanchs and zila parishad members will begin on October 8. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force in Rajasthan as soon as the election schedule is announced. It will be in force for about 2 months till the completion of the election process. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for October 13. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till October 15. In the first phase, Jaisalmer and Phalodi will go to the polls together. Thereafter, elections for zila parishad and panchayat samiti members will be held in separate phases. With the announcement of the election schedule, preparations are expected to pick up pace at the candidates and local levels.
