RAJKOT: The municipal corporation has been given a target of Rs 455 crore for property tax collection for the current financial year. Against this, Rs 410 crore has been collected so far. The target is now achievable if only Rs 45 crore is collected. On record, there are huge property tax arrears from various central and state government offices operating in the city. These arrears can be met in a single day. Government offices are the biggest defaulters. The municipal corporation issues notices to general property holders, but there are allegations that it is not taking strict action against other government departments for collection of tax arrears. According to tax branch sources, Saurashtra University's Rs 28 crore, BSN L's Rs ID3 crore, Summers Hostel's Rs ID4 crore, police department's Rs ID1 crore, collector's office's ID2 crore and Rs 10 crore are pending.
