According to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a non-governmental organisation working on electoral reforms, about 32 per cent of sitting MPs in Rajya Sabha have declared criminal cases against themselves and 14 per cent of them are billionaires. The data was released after analysing affidavits submitted by 229 out of 233 MPs in Rajya Sabha. The analysis also included 37 recently elected members. 73 (32 per cent) out of 229 MPs have criminal cases registered against them. 36 (16 per cent) of them are facing serious charges. One MP has declared cases related to murder, four for attempt to murder and three for crimes against women. 27 out of 99 MPs from BJP, 12 out of 28 MPs from Congress, four out of 13 MPs from Trinamool Congress and four out of 10 MPs from Aam Aadmi Party have declared criminal cases against themselves. Three MPs from Communist Party of India-Marxist and three from BRS have also declared criminal cases against themselves.
