Reform Education System, Not Just Replace Ministers: CPI (M) MP Demands Strong Political Will

CPI (M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas on Sunday (July 26, 2026) said that merely replacing the education minister will not end the problems associated with the country's examination system. He demanded the government to show strong political will to reform the entire system. He says that to win back the trust of students and the general public, it is not enough to just change ministers, but accountability has to be fixed in the entire system. After Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was given additional charge of the education ministry, John Brittas said that the government should take big and strict steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the examination process. He said that even two years ago, the government had assured Parliament that effective steps would be taken to prevent malpractices and malpractices in examinations. Then in 2024, a law was also passed related to preventing unfair means in public examinations, but despite this, the problems in the examination system continued. Brittas also questioned how changes were being made at the level of the higher education department.
