In 2011, the Left could not win a single seat in the state assembly elections due to intense bipartisan and communal polarization. As a result, the Left Front drew a blank in the assembly. Since then, for the past five years, the ruling Trinamool Congress and the ruling RSS-BJP at the Centre have been constantly mocking the CPI (M) and Left Front allies. The CPI (M) has been vilified as irrelevant and a party erased from state politics. The process continued till the beginning of the CPI election process. But since then, surprisingly, the tendency of the two ruling parties to mock the CPI (M) as a'zero'is fast diminishing. Especially since the Left Front and the CPI (M) jumped into the electoral arena with massive street protests on various urgent issues at different stages, and the response of the general public has been unprecedented. They have started counting the numbers. The CPI (M) has not crossed the zero mark (perhaps). The Left Front will enter politics within a few months.
