Russia Launches Missile Strikes on Kiev, Killing At Least 11 People

The fires of war between Russia and Ukraine are raging again. In the early hours of Monday (July 6) morning, Russia launched missile and drone strikes on Kiev, killing at least 11 people and wounding 60. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces shot down 519 Ukrainian drones overnight. The attack came hours after Ukraine's president warned of a possible large-scale attack. Russia struck the capital earlier on Thursday (June 25), killing 31. It was the deadliest attack in the capital this year. Russia's Defense Ministry said the bombing was in retaliation for Ukraine's recent long-range attacks, which have caused severe fuel shortages and increased pressure on President Vladimir Putin. News agency AP quoted local officials as saying that the attack targeted two residential buildings. There are reports of 60 people wounded. The rubble is being searched for emergency personnel. The president is also due to attend a NATO summit in Turkey, where he is due to attend a NATO summit.
