Sam Bankman-Fried Seeks Presidential Pardon After Serving Sentence

According to Justice Department documents cited by Bloomberg, Sam has applied for a pardon after serving his sentence. This simply means that the pardon will not overturn his conviction, but will restore some of his civil rights after serving his sentence, such as the right to vote or join a jury. In addition, if granted, it will remove legal barriers to his future employment, licensing, education, and housing. When Bankman-Fried was CEO of FTX, he was considered one of the largest donors to Democratic Party campaigns. However, his stance has changed since his time in federal prison and he has posted in support of the Trump administration on social media. In an interview published with Fox Business on Monday, Sam explicitly stated that he "definitely" wants a presidential pardon. According to the Justice Department, although his pardon application has never been made, a CNN spokesperson declined to comment on its exact date of 2026.
