Savani Brothers Convicted of Multi-Million-Dollar Scam in US Court

Amreli: The Savani brothers, who hail from Gujarat's Amreli district and are big names in the US, are currently embroiled in a legal tussle. A Pennsylvania court has convicted Bhaskar and Arun Savani of serious crimes such as Medicaid fraud, visa fraud and prototyping dental implants without patients'consent. As news of their over 400-year jail term spreads, Saurashtra is in a tizzy. The brothers, who ran 76 clinics in six states for three decades, have been accused of running a multi-million-dollar scam. Bhaskar Savani, presenting his case from behind bars, says the entire case is'politically motivated'and a sample of racial prejudice. He claims to have been targeted out of jealousy for the success of Indians in the US. He alleges his image is being tarnished by criminalising administrative lapses. When the sentence is finally announced in July, Savani expresses hope for a presidential pardon.
