As per the guidelines of the Defence Geoinformatic Research Establishment, Sikkim is likely to experience severe snowstorm in the next 24 hours, with Changu and Nathu La being the most likely areas to be affected. The guidelines have already reached the Sikkim administration. The Disaster Management Force has been directed to remain on alert. However, heavy snowfall has been reported from a large area of North to East Sikkim for the past few days. The military is trying to clear the blanket and restore normal traffic. Meanwhile, the notification of the snowstorm is creating more panic. Apart from the disaster response force, the Indian Army is also on alert. A large number of tourists are currently in these areas.
