Taking a new turn in the history of Maharashtra politics, the legal battle for power over Shiv Sena is now heading towards its decisive phase. On Wednesday, in the Supreme Court, the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde faction strongly defended the decision of the Election Commission in which the Commission had considered the Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena and assigned it the'bow and arrow'symbol. Senior advocate एन.के Kaul, appearing for the Shinde faction, made his submissions before a bench of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana. He told the court that the Election Commission has "not a single evidence" of the submission of any amended constitution other than the 2011 constitution. He clarified that the party's constitution drafted in 2011 was the only official document on record. Highlighting the importance of internal democracy during the debate, Kaul said that it is the "bedrock of the democratic pyramid" of the political party, and that it was necessary for the parties to adhere to democratic values within their own party.
