Snowfall Wreaks Havoc in Sandakphu and Sikkim

North Bengal has been witnessing hot and humid weather since the beginning of the winter season. On the one hand, there is continuous rain in the plains, while on the other hand, there is heavy snowfall on the hilly roads of Sandakphu. According to the Meteorological Department, this situation is due to the thunderclouds formed in the atmosphere due to the influence of western disturbances. Sandakphu, which has been affected by snowfall for the past few days, has received light snow, but since Friday night heavy snowfall has started in Sandakphu. As a result, roads have been covered with a layer of snow about 6 inches thick, which has reportedly stranded hundreds of tourists in Sandakphu and its adjacent areas. The situation in Sikkim and traffic has not been spared from the snowfall. The road from Lachen to Thangdu and Gurudongma has been completely closed due to the snowfall in North and East Sikkim. The road from Yumthang to Ziro Point, Lachungchung Hill, is also currently closed. The Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Gopinath Mungwar, has issued a high snow warning in Sikkim and Sikkim.
