Srinagar MP Ruhullah Mehdi Heads to Delhi Amid Party Leadership Tensions

Amid rising tensions with the National Conference (NC) party leadership, Srinagar MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has left for Delhi. It is believed that he will finalise his decision to resign from both the Lok Sabha and the party there. There are reports that Ruhullah may resign immediately, but sources close to the MP say that he may take some time before making an announcement. This political development comes after a public confrontation with NC patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Farooq Abdullah had openly challenged him to resign and seek a fresh mandate from voters if he felt that his 2024 victory was based on his personal popularity rather than party support. Media reports confirm that Ruhullah has moved from Srinagar to New Delhi for a few days. There is strong speculation in local political circles that he will formally submit his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker or use this time to firm up his next strategic move. Sources close to the MP say that the date of his resignation cannot be announced on Saturday (29 November).
