WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump's most controversial and ambitious immigration agenda is showing signs of a major setback in the Supreme Court. Judges have turned a blind eye to Trump's efforts to abolish birthright citizenship for children born on American soil. During Wednesday's arguments, Chief Justice John Roberts rejected the Trump administration's arguments in a way that Trump's presence and the judges'stern demeanor made it the first time in American history that a sitting president sat in a public gallery to watch Supreme Court proceedings. Trump ordered on his first day in office in January 2025 that children born in the United States to parents who do not have green cards or citizenship should not be granted citizenship. However, despite the court's 6 - 3 conservative majority, most judges continue to hold this order against the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. "The new world, even if it's the Constitution, is where the people of the world argue that a child born on an airplane is'wrong'because of their birthright."
