Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Launches Gold Ring Scheme for Newborns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister सी.जोसेफ Vijay launched the Matru Chacha Gold Ring Scheme (Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam), a 22-carat gold ring for newborns. This is one of the key poll promises of Vijay Joseph, who became Chief Minister soon after entering politics from films. The scheme was launched on Monday at Government Rajaji Hospital, where Vijay briefly adopted children and presented them with gold rings. The government has set a budget of 755.83 crore for this scheme. The scheme is aimed at encouraging institutional births by honoring motherhood, promoting women's health, and attracting more families to public health services. The Tamil Nadu government has already purchased 1.28 lakh gold rings in the initial rounds for children born in government hospitals. This scheme is for children who are born on or after June 22, 2026. The government has allocated close to ₹14,000 crore for the scheme, which does not include the current ₹22,000 crore in manufacturing charges.
