New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking dissolution of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and imposition of President's rule in the state. The petition alleges malpractices and corruption during the trust vote held on 13 May. The trust vote proved the majority of the TVK government led by the incumbent Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Ramesh, a resident of Madurai, has filed the petition. The petition also seeks a CBI investigation into the matter. The Tamil Nadu government has been made a party in the petition. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has a total of 234 seats and the support of at least 118 MLAs is required to form a government. Vijay won the trust vote on 13 May with the support of 144 MLAs. According to the petition, TVK had only 108 seats and had to seek the support of other parties and groups to gain a majority. The only petitioners were the Government of India, the CBI, and the AIADMK.
