Tamil Nadu Politics in Flux: TVK Emerges as Single Largest Party

Chennai, May 5: Who will form the government in Tamil Nadu? Will actor Vijay become the chief minister? How can Thalapathy Vijay's party, TVK, form the government? Who will support TVK? Will a new alliance be formed? All these questions are doing the rounds in Tamil Nadu politics. Actor-turned-politician Vijay's TVK did surprisingly well in the Tamil Nadu assembly election results. It emerged as the single largest party by defeating DMK and AIADMK. In fact, TVK got 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly election results. This is a surprise result, which was never imagined by DMK and AIADMK. However, despite winning 108 seats, TVK is far from the majority. The majority mark is 118, TVK is short of 10 seats. As a result, no single party has secured a majority in Tamil Nadu. This sudden change in Tamil Nadu politics has started discussions about the possibility of a post-poll alliance. The biggest question is whether TVK will form the government with AIADMK, while the actual tally of AIADMK is only 47 seats.
