The rift within the Indi alliance in Tamil Nadu has widened. The DMK has vehemently rejected its former ally VCK's demand that the BJP join forces with MK Stalin's party and CM Vijay-led TVK in an opposition alliance. The new controversy began when VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan proposed an arrangement similar to Kerala and West Bengal, where rival parties in state politics remain allies in a national-level Indi alliance. The Congress soon supported the proposal and argued that opposition unity against the BJP should be kept above state-level political differences. But the DMK rejected the suggestion. It accused the Congress of betraying the alliance after the recent Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Also, the DMK has clarified that such a model is unlikely to work in the changed political climate of the state. According to an NDTV report, Rajkumar P. Ganapathy, an MP from the DMK, said that he joined hands with the Congress only to gain TVK's support after the elections.
