Traffic movement on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was disrupted after a gas tanker overturned near the Adoshi tunnel in Raigad district on Wednesday, February 3. The incident forced the authorities to take immediate safety measures and halt traffic movement on one of the busiest highways that connects Mumbai and Pune. According to a report in IANS, the accident took place at around 6:15 PM. The tanker was travelling at high speed when it lost control on the slope near the tunnel and overturned on the road. Traffic Halted On Mumbai-Pune Expressway After Tanker Overturns The tanker was carrying propylene gas, which is highly flammable and risky if it comes in contact with heat or sparks. Considering the danger, the police and emergency teams reached the spot and immediately began safety measures. Traffic towards Mumbai was temporarily shut to ensure the safety of commuters. This also allowed the rescue teams to handle the situation. Traffic Situation Caught On Camera Videos from the site have surfaced online. One of the clips, recorded from a passing vehicle, shows workers wearing hazmat suits working near the overturned tanker in an attempt to control the gas leakage. It also captures the overturned tanker lying on the highway while emergency teams remain deployed at the location. In the background, a person can be heard saying, “Abhi leak hora hai wo (The tanker is still leaking)." Another video from the spot shows gas visibly leaking from the tanker while trucks and heavy vehicles are seen moving slowly on the opposite side of the road. The footage also shows that traffic was halted on the stretch where the tanker had overturned, while movement continued cautiously on the other side of the expressway.
