New Delhi: Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu took oath as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at a ceremony held at Lok Niwas on Wednesday. Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sandhu in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and others. Sandhu has been appointed as the LG of Delhi replacing Vinay Kumar Saxena. VK Saxena has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Who is the new LG of Delhi Taranjit Singh. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a 1988-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is one of the experienced Indian diplomats in American affairs. He has served several times in the Indian Embassy in Washington. He was India's Ambassador to the United States from February 2020 to January 2024. Represented India at the United Nations from 2005 to 2009. Also, 63-year-old Sandhu served as the Governor of India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations from July 2005 to February 2009. Sandhu contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Punjab's Amritsar constituency on a BJP ticket but did not win.
