Tharoor Backs Moitra Amid Mob Attack, Calls for Government Protection

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday made a statement in support of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra after the Nadia district administration allegedly tried to get her to vacate the Krishnanagar Circuit House. Tharoor said that the government should protect the MP and not ask her to vacate the official residence if she was targeted by a mob. In fact, Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday night after the crowd gathered outside and chanted'Jai Shri Ram'slogans, seeking his intervention and warning her to go to court in the harassment case. Angered at this, Tharoor questioned the state government and said that all those who believe in democracy should stand with Mahua Moitra. He wrote on X with the hashtag'Stand with Mahua'that if the price of sticking to their views is that a mob attacks them, then it is the government's job to protect them, not to tell them to vacate the official residence. Tharoor said that the basic tenets of our freedom struggle, especially on that day, need to be addressed.
