Three minor sisters, aged 12, 14, and 16, respectively, allegedly jumped to death from the ninth floor of a building in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, as part of a “task-based" online game. According to the police, as cited by the outlet, the three girls were addicted to online gaming, and their family was against the obsession. They reportedly got addicted to online gaming two-three years back. They used to play an online task-based Korean lover game. The girls did not attend their school on a regular basis, said the police. The police have also recovered a screenshot of the game they used to play on their mobile phone. The online gaming app, as shown in the visual, listed suicide as the “last task", reportedly prompting the minor girls to take the extreme step. ‘Sorry Mummy, Papa…’ The police, meanwhile, have recovered the suicide note from the spot, which read, “Mummy, Papa, sorry. The game you wanted us to quit, now you will realize how much we loved it. Korean (the game) was our life." The girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, said he had no idea it was a part of the task-based game. “Parents should not let their children play online games. Had we known what kind of a game this was, we would have never let them play". “They had been playing the game for the past two-three years. They used to tell me that they wanted to go to Korea. I would ask them, ‘Why Korea?'", he said. Describing how the incident took place, the father added, “In the early hours of Wednesday, the girls told me they had to go to the kitchen to drink water. From there, they jumped off the building". “I always thought of it as a normal game. I had no idea they were a part of a task". The incident took place at Bharat City, a residential township in Ghaziabad, around 2 A.M. on Wednesday, February 4. The police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter. The tragic incident has once again brought online games under scrutiny, with residents voicing concerns about children’s safety and security. Suicide Prevention. News 18.
