TMC MP Files Complaint Against Chief Election Commissioner Over Electoral Roll Manipulation Allegations

TMC MP Mahua Moitra has filed a complaint against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the Parliament Street Police Station on Thursday (24 September 2026). In the complaint, she referred to a report by The Indian Express that Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Election Commissioner Vivek Joshi had formally objected to the EC's decisions and orders at least 14 times in the last 10 months. She alleged that the EC had manipulated the electoral rolls. She claimed that Gyanesh Kumar and the ECI IT system had bypassed local officials responsible for maintaining the electoral rolls. The police have not yet registered an FIR. Moitra said that the CEC does not have the authority to take any action on behalf of the commission against the recorded opinions of both her colleagues nor does he have any authority to issue messages in the name of the commission that have never been approved by the commission. She also raised the question of the'considerable amount of money sanctioned by the ECI and money spent on the main police station of the Parliament of India's main police station Mahua Moitra said.
