Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress and the Election Commission continue to be at loggerheads ahead of the West Bengal elections. The TMC on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court over the transfer of several IAS and IPS officers in West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been made a respondent in the petition filed by TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee. The TMC has approached the court over the transfer of officers. The petition questions the EC's decision to transfer the officers without consulting the state government. The case is likely to be heard early next week. The EC had transferred a large number of senior officers, including the chief secretary, home secretary and the director general of police, within hours of announcing the assembly elections on March 15. She described it as a well-thought-out conspiracy to capture Bengal through institutional manipulation.
