The crisis in the Trinamool Congress continues to deepen after the crushing defeat in the Bengal assembly elections. The rebellion within the party has reached from the assembly to the parliament. On Thursday, Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik and actress-MP Koel Mallick also resigned from their posts. With this, the number of Trinamool MPs who resigned from the Rajya Sabha in the last four days has also increased to four. Earlier, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev have also resigned from the membership of the Upper House. After the resignation of Prakash Chik Baraik, Prakash Chik Baraik said that he has taken this decision by respecting the mandate given by the people in the recent election. He announced to leave the Trinamool and said that in the future he will work as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. Once considered close to Abhishek Banerjee, Baraik was sent to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool in 2023 and was also a candidate from Alipurduar in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He has also resigned from all party posts. On the other hand, Koel Mallick's resignation and difficulties in February made him a Rajya Sabha MP.
