Trinamool Congress on Brink of Split as Over 50 MLAs Prepare to Form New Faction

Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress may split into two factions. Expelled TMC leader Riju Dutta claimed that more than 50 of the 80 MLAs are preparing to declare themselves as the real Trinamool. Riju claimed that today all these MLAs will go to the Assembly Speaker and raise three issues. Firstly, we are the real Trinamool Congress. Secondly, the Leader of the Opposition will be Ritabrata, not Sobhandeb. Thirdly, we have a two-thirds majority, so the symbol should be ours. TMC has 80 MLAs in Bengal. If the new faction needs two-thirds or 54 MLAs for recognition. The Speaker will not recognize the new faction. Riju Dutta is not a legislator who claims to break away. On Monday, 2 expelled TMC MLAs Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee held a meeting with several TMC MLAs at the MLA Hostel in Kolkata. Several TMC MLAs also joined. Two-thirds of the MLAs joined the BJP. However, two-thirds of the total 80 MLAs (54 MLAs) refused to join the BJP.
