The fire of rebellion in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is spreading fast after losing power in West Bengal. Only 8 MLAs turned up for the crucial meeting called at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence on Friday. Most MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha also stayed away. More than two-thirds of the total 80 TMC MLAs are now openly rebelling. Just a few days ago, 60 MLAs boycotted a crucial meeting. The very low attendance at Friday's meeting has shocked the party leadership. According to sources, many MLAs and MPs are now questioning the party's direction and Mamata Banerjee's leadership. Only 4 of the party's 28 Lok Sabha MPs attended the meeting, while 11 of the Rajya Sabha MPs were missing. Mamata Banerjee's nephew and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was present at the meeting. Only Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen from the Rajya Sabha attended the meeting. Among the MLAs, Madan Mitra, Bina Mondal, Ashima Patra, Kunal Hakim, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, and Abhishek Banerjee, the newly appointed national general secretary of the party, were present at the meeting.
