The Trinamool Congress has taken a strategic decision in the hills for the upcoming assembly elections. The ruling party will not field candidates in the three seats of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong, supporting Anit Thapa's party Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha. On Monday, the party announced its list of candidates. Mamata Banerjee and All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee released the list of candidates. Before releasing the list of candidates, Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Election Commission. She then said that the TMC will contest a total of 291 seats in the state. However, three important seats in the hills have been left for Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha. Therefore, the candidates of Anit Thapa's party will fight in support of the TMC. Soon after the elections were announced, Anit Thapa announced the names of candidates for the three seats in the hills. Since then, there was speculation in the political circles whether the TMC will field its own candidates in these three seats or support Anit Thapa's party. The announcement on this day ended the speculation.
