On the eve of the Assembly elections, a Trinamool worker was shot at in Gangarampur, South Dinajpur. The worker, identified as Shiba Chowdhury (29), was allegedly attacked in the Out Colony area adjacent to Barabazar, not far from the Gangarampur police station, late on Tuesday night. He was admitted to the Gangarampur Super Specialty Hospital with serious injuries. Hospital sources said his condition was critical. Police sources said Shiba was returning home in his car at night. The assailants opened fire after blocking the path of his car. However, the victim's family alleged that the attack was due to factional feuds within the party. Babu Chowdhury, president of the SC, ST and OBC cell of Gangarampur town, claimed that the TMC was involved in the incident. Biplob Chowdhury, the brother of the injured, alleged that the incident took place due to a dispute over a car in the middle of the road. According to him, Shiba was shot at while stopping the car in front of the police station. A total of three family members of the Gangarampur candidate were also injured in the incident, while Gautam Das assured that the ruling TMC and the administration would look into the matter.
