Trump Backs Netanyahu Ahead of Israeli Elections, Citing Unfinished Work Against Iran

Ahead of Tuesday's parliamentary elections in Israel, US President Donald Trump has openly endorsed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump urged Israeli voters to vote for Netanyahu, saying they have to finish the work that the two leaders started together. Trump's statement follows intense discussions about the possibility of renewed military action against Iran. The US president wrote on social media on Sunday, "Vote for Bibi Netanyahu for Prime Minister. We have to finish the work that we started." In fact, the US and Israel jointly launched a war against Iran in February this year. Now, just before the elections, Trump has reiterated his support for Netanyahu. Netanyahu has also indicated that further action against Iran is possible if he remains in power. In a televised statement on Sunday, Netanyahu told his American counterpart Donald Trump that "there is no doubt that our friendship with the US President, and with the Israeli Prime Minister, has been unprecedented."
