Trump's Claim on Hormuz Strait Sparks Retort from Iran

Iran has hit back at US President Donald Trump over his claim of US control over Hormuz. Trump said that the US would declare Hormuz its territory after defeating Iran. In response, Iranian leader Ebrahim Azizi quipped that "Trump should worry about his security instead of claiming Hormuz, lest he hide in a food truck again." In fact, Trump said during an event in New York that after completely defeating Iran, he plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory. He also claimed that the US Navy is blockading this entire sea route. Even before this statement, tensions between the two countries were high. Hormuz is one of the most important sea routes in the world. Hormuz supplies a huge amount of crude oil, natural gas, and fertilizer. The day after Trump's statement, the head of Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament said that he should think about his life instead of threatening the US leadership.
