Two Die in Sewer Accident in Jaipur, Politicians Trade Barbs

Jaipur: Two Valmiki community youths died of asphyxiation after falling into a sewer line in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur. The incident has not only raised questions on the functioning of the administration but has also heated up the state's politics. Former minister and Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas has opened a front against the government over the matter. How the accident happened: One was saved. According to another journalist, the accident occurred when sanitation workers were lowered into a deep sewerage chamber. According to eyewitnesses and family members, a sanitation worker first got down, but when he did not get out for a long time due to poisonous gas and debris, another fellow also got down to save him. The lack of oxygen and poisonous sewerage gas inside the sewer line did not give both a chance to save him.
