US Elects First Muslim Senator: A Moment of Great Pride for Indian Family

While the results of the US elections are being celebrated all over the US, from Washington to the city of Bhatkal in Karnataka in India, one family in Bhatkal has a very special and personal reason to be happy. Adding a new chapter to the political history in the US, Abdul Al-Sayyed has been elected as the country's first Muslim Senator. For his wife Sara's relatives in India, this historic victory is a moment of great pride and affinity. Abdul Al-Sayyed is a well-known and influential political face in the US, but for his relatives in Bhatkal, he is a very humble, easy-going and friendly person. Sara's cousins, Jukaku Shamsuddin Zia and Bibi Husna, expressed great joy at this resounding victory. The family was under a lot of stress during the counting of votes and the entire election campaign. They were in constant touch with their uncle in the US, who used to keep them updated about the election activities.
