US-Iran Peace Deal Disrupted by Israeli Airstrike: Questions About US Support for Israel

Just before the signing of the US-Iran peace deal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched an airstrike in Beirut. This angered US President Donald Trump. He said to Netanyahu on the phone,'What are you doing?'and then called him'a very difficult man.'Now questions are echoing throughout the Middle East as to whether the US can really leave Israel alone by patting it on the back of its most staunch ally. The US provides Israel with the largest military aid. Under a deal signed in 2016, the US agreed to give Israel $38 billion from 2019 to 2028. This aid reaches Israel about $3.8 billion every year. In addition, the Biden administration approved an additional $8 billion military aid package in 2025. In other words, US aid is about 15% of Israel's total defense budget. Don't underestimate it, because it is difficult to claim that the US military has the resources to fight a long war without Israel's military chief trying to use the gap to its advantage.
