US Launches Airstrikes Against Iran's IRGC Positions Near Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Iran are at war again on Monday (1 September 2026). Amid ongoing negotiations over a peace deal, the United States launched airstrikes against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) positions near the Strait of Hormuz. According to US Central Command, the military action was in response to recent attacks by Iran on commercial ships in Hormuz and US troops stationed in the area. According to Iranian local media and IRGC-linked telegram channels, explosions have been heard in large parts of southern and southeastern Iran following the US strikes. Major coastal areas such as Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, Konarak, Qeshm, Jask, Sirik, and Minab have suffered heavy explosions. US Central Command reported that their forces began targeting IRGC positions at 12 noon US time. At 12 pm ET, US forces launched strikes against IRGC targets in the Strait of Hormuz.
