US Senate Approves Bill Imposing Sanctions on Russia, India Closely Monitoring

The US Senate has recently approved a bill imposing sanctions on Russia. The bill allows the imposition of 100% tariffs on the top 5 countries of the world that buy oil or natural gas from Russia. The bill gives the US President the power and authority to impose tariffs. After its approval, India has said that it is closely monitoring this whole development. The bill will now go to the House of Representatives for further consideration. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that the government's position on India's energy security has been made clear many times before. He said that India's energy policy is based solely on national interests and meeting the energy needs of 140 million people. For this, India imports energy from different countries, including the US. Randhir Jaiswal made this statement in response to a question about India's response to the bill passed by the US Senate on 86-12 votes.
