Washington, Dt. 2: The largest legal battle in history is currently underway in the Supreme Court over the law of automatic citizenship for every child born in the United States. Indian American attorney Smita Ghosh is playing a key role in the case. As senior appellate counsel for the Constitutional Accountability Center, Smita has presented arguments as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) that the US Constitution protects birthright citizenship. This controversial case? President Donald Trump proposed through an executive order that children born in the US should not be granted citizenship if their parents'immigration status is not legal. The case, known as Trump v. Barbara, was heard orally on 1 April. The case came to further prominence when Donald Trump became the first sitting US president to appear in court proceedings. Smita Ghosh said that the administration's interpretation of this interpretation, a long-standing challenge to US birthright citizenship, was also a violation of the Constitution's Article 14 Declaration of Independence.
