Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed in Ayodhya on Friday, July 10, that namaz was offered on the steps of Hanumangarhi under the Samajwadi Party government. Now, reacting to his claim, Brijlal, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh and currently a Rajya Sabha MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party, accused the Samajwadi Party of appeasement politics. He claimed that during the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in 2003, a roza iftar was proposed to be held near Hanumangarhi in the presence of the then IG Law and Order VN Rai, and preparations were also made for namaz by laying a mat near the stairs. According to Brijlal, the then SSP of Faizabad, Rajiv Sabharwal, he was informed of this and after protests, the attempt did not succeed. He says that namaz and roza iftar were later held at the mahant's residence, while the mat laid on the steps outside the residence was removed by the police. Brijlal, however, denies these allegations.
